A student has to be a citizen or an eligible noncitizen to receive federal student aid. This chapter describes how the student’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) information is matched with other agencies to determine citizenship status. It also describes immigration documents that you may have to collect to make sure that the student meets this requirement.
