Safety Net Benefits for Immigrant Survivors – August 30, 2022

National Conference on Domestic Violence in St. Louis, Missouri

Description of Workshop

For survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and other crimes, access to safety-net benefits is often critical to achieve economic security and independence. For immigrant survivors, it is often extremely difficult to navigate what benefits and economic supports are available in their area, and whether accessing these benefits will have consequences for their immigration status in the future. In this interactive presentation, participants will examine which benefits and services are available to all survivors, regardless of immigration status. In addition, this
session will explore how different types of immigration protections impact a survivor’s eligibility for work authorization, benefits and services. Participants will discuss recent policy developments that impact immigrant survivors’ access to safety-net protections, and discuss individual and systemic advocacy strategies to strengthen access to economic support.
