Legal Protections and Best Practices That Support Immigrant Survivors of Human Trafficking and Family Violence (Ocean City, Maryland) October 16, 2025

Victim advocates and attorneys play a crucial role supporting immigrant domestic violence, child/elder abuse, sexual assault, stalking, and human trafficking victims gain access to justice and the full range of services and assistance they are legally entitled to receive. The following training, presented on October 16th at the 2025 Maryland Human Trafficking Professional Seminar provides an overview of available paths to legal immigration status for survivors of human trafficking and family violence and share best practices for addressing the unique issues immigrant survivors face in protection order, custody, divorce, and child support proceedings.

The training covers how qualified immigrants can access a broader range of public benefits. Participants will learn how to use NIWAP’s public benefits map and state-by-state charts to identify benefits for which immigrant victims may qualify.

Attendees will also be introduced to NIWAP’s technical assistance, materials, tools, directory, web library, training opportunities (virtual and in-person), and its community of practice for ongoing peer-to-peer learning.
