National Association of Women Judges, Chapter 6: Ethical Issues for Judges and Courts in Processing Human Trafficking Cases

Last updated:

This document is chapter 6 of the Human Trafficking Resource Guide by the National Center for State Courts. It addresses the underlying ethical concerns of judges when handling cases where human trafficking may be an issue. Some major concerns that face judges in this are include (but are not limited to): being perceived as interfering with the attorney/client relationship, acting/appearing to act as an advocate for a human trafficking victim in the context of a criminal prosecution without compromising their neutrality, and undermining the prosecutors.
