NIWAP Law Enforcement and Prosecution Roundtable – Coercive “Love”: The Intersection of Intimate Partner Violence and Human Trafficking (November 18, 2024) [pdf]
Intimate partner human trafficking cases can often appear more like love and loyalty to victims, rather than force, fraud, and coercion. Understanding the unique vulnerabilities traffickers exploit in these relationships can increase victim identification and improve responses to victims. When victims of intimate partner human trafficking are also immigrants, investigations and prosecutions can be challenging if victims do not have access to meaningful victim and legal services. During this Roundtable, the facilitators led discussions around what intimate partner human trafficking can look like, strategies to enhance identification, and tools to improve responses when immigrants are trafficked by their intimate partners.
